There are very few

Subhash Ghai's Kisna

There are very few musical compositions which can drive you crazy on the first listening. With no clue of how the music would sound, I landed in Subash Ghai’s Kisna website. There were sounds of horses galloping and then an animated sword flies in and gets stuck into the battlefield mud, followed by a flute. Starts the the single high pitched flute and goes on and on getting accompanied with few distant drums.

Flute is a magical instrument. With just a flow of air directed across the hole bounces in and creates magic. Can literally take a plunge into your soul and can wade through it like a fresh breeze. This composition is one just a sample of the enormous possibilities, flute encompasses.

If you are reading this and heading for the website, you may probably not get the similar goosebumps like me. Even I may not have it for the next time. I went with no clues/expectations/blocks. It took me by a sweet shock. Try out your luck, anyway.

Kisna’s music is not just by one but two, of the best hindi music directors, A R Rahman and Ismail Durbar. Now, will I be allowed to compare this combo with Mella Thirandhathu Kathavu / Senthamizh Paattu music composed by Illayaraja and MS Viswanathan.

Am heading this evening to buy myself a CD of Kisna. Sure.

  5. Talking about Flute and ARR… I kinda observed this.. for ARR.. if “Drums” Sivamani is his right hand, “Flute” Naveen is his left. I guess he is one best flutist in the country apart from very few greats like ‘flute’ Ramani.
You might have seen his “presence” in the ‘Unity of Light’ prog. of the musical genious.

  7. A nice album but definitely not a classic.. Expected more but was sadly let down..IMHO Ismail Darbar is capable of much better stuff but I guess the songs fit the situations well so will reserve judgement till i see the movie..

ps: Aham brahmasmi was the real surprise..Waiting for ur take on the music Guru !!

  8. Jupe,

Dont you think it is too early to judge whether it is a classic or not?

  9. Even your warm words about the muysic couldnt affect the effect created by the classic composition Guru. It is a stunning piece of haunting music…

After Pal Pal, Naveen yet again showcases his genius and his genius always seems to enhance with ARR…

Presently hearing the album…So Far So Good

  11. Thanks guys for all that info.

And Ratnavel, yeah I am sure I wouldn’t able to bring that feel of music in words. I tried but I know it was much better than my description. It really haunts and didn’t know that so many people were actually waiting for this music for a long time.

Jupe, I haven’t yet bought the CD. Work kanna work.

Ajay- You ae right. Though Naveen hasn’t been acclaimed as Sivamani, I think really supports ARR’s inspiring themes.
